Olympiad Fly Fishing Masters Tournament - Lake Lure

On the first day of competition, anglers in both adult and youth divisions will be judged on distance and accuracy casting. The top ten adult division finishers will move onto day two where they will be judged on the combined length of three fish caught within a specific timeframe. Sustainable Horticulture School - Foothills Connect Business and Technology Center

Foothills Connect Business & Technology Center is now taking registrations for the summer Sustainable Horticulture School, a 10 week series of classes covering the basics of sustainable growing. Topics covered include: Planning & Site Analysis, Soil Basics, Seeds & Plants, Incorporating Animals, Fencing & Water, Bed Building & Planting, Weed, Insect, and Disease Management. Harvesting, Distribution, and Marketing. The cost of the program is $79.00 per person; includes all materials. Belk's Spring Charity Sale - Belk's Department Store

In return for a $5 donation, customers receive a ticket admitting them to the sale and entitling them to merchandise discounts on purchases throughout the store. Participating local charities sell the $5 tickets in advance of the event and keep the proceeds.

Gears and Gables - A Ride For Housing - First Baptist Church, Rutherfordton

The Gears and Gable Ride, a fully supported ride to benefit Rutherford Housing Partnership, May 2nd,starting at 8 a.m. at First Baptist Church in downtown Rutherfordton, NC. The ride will feature routes of 30, 65,102, and 127 miles. The fee of $45.00 includes registration, event t-shirt, rest stops, SAG, post-ride meal, complimentary Road ID bracelet, and more. MayFest - Downtown Rutherfordton

The 37th annual MAY FESTival officially opens with the 2009 Gears and Gables ride that benefits the Rutherford Housing Partnership. Boy Scouts host their annual District Pinewood Derby & Scout Show. Over 100 arts & crafts vendors from the Carolinas as well as food vendors serving BBQ, burgers, funnel cakes, ice cream and much more! Coca Cola is the official drink sponsor at this year�s festival. Live entertainment begins at 10 a.m. including Bobby and Blue Ridge Tradition, �First Class Bluegrass� from Asheville, NC, Backstreet, traditional and contemporary acoustic music from Lenoir, NC, and local group Generation Gap, a versatile and experienced group of bluegrass performers from the foothills of North and South Carolina.
�Truman�s Playland� sponsored by Rutherford Weekly, has inflatables, a rock climbing wall, games and more. A petting zoo, sponsored by Home Town Festivals, is provided by Thera-pets. Thera-pets reads stories to children (and those young at heart) about their animals!
Do not miss the Guitar Hero Contest sponsored by Forest City Honda. Local AM radio station, WCAB, provides a live remote broadcast from 10 a.m. � 2 p.m. The day ends with RUSH FOR THE GOLD, a crazy hunt for prizes from 5:30-8:30 p.m. This "crazy" hunt includes solving riddles and following clues using downtown Rutherfordton as the game board.
